Identification matters more on this brand than most, because Sub-Zero states that parts from one model are not compatible with another. The model number on your serial tag is what decides which part is ordered.

The 500 Series is one of the ranges we are called to most in Los Angeles, and cabinets in the 5xx family are common in houses built or remodelled through the eighties and nineties. Sub-Zero maintains a documented model timeline, use and care guide, installation guide and temperature control guidance for the series, so these are supported cabinets rather than orphans.
What they need from you is precision. A 511 and a 532 are different cabinets, and the part that fits one will not fit the other. Read the number off the tag rather than from memory.

The current Classic Series is the CL range, and the naming tells you the cabinet: CL3650R is a 36 inch all-refrigerator, CL3650F the matching all-freezer, CL3050U a 30 inch over-and-under, CL4850UFD a 48 inch over-and-under French door, CL4250S a 42 inch side-by-side. An ID suffix means integrated panel and a G means a glass door.
Every CL cabinet is 84 inches high and 26-3/16 inches deep. That consistency is what makes the range swap into an existing opening predictably, and it is the first number to check if you are weighing replacement against repair.

The 600 Series succeeded the 500s and remains extremely common here. Sub-Zero publishes a 600 Series model timeline, use and care guide, installation guide, design guide and a quick reference guide for the 650 specifically, which is the single model in the family we field the most calls about.
The 600s are also the range where the error code display becomes genuinely useful, since EC40 and EC50 report excessive compressor run on the freezer and refrigerator sides respectively. If your cabinet is showing a code, note it before clearing it.

This is the practical heart of the page. The serial tag carries the model number, the serial number, the manufacture date and the refrigerant specification, and its position depends on the series.
- Classic combination models: inside the refrigerator door near the top door hinge, or the freezer door on a side-by-side.
- Classic French Door models: inside the left-hand door, near the top hinge.
- Classic single models: inside the door near the top hinge.
- Designer Column (IC, DEC): inside the middle drawer, near the drawer guide opposite the hinge.
- Designer Tall (IT, DET), Designer Drawer (ID) and 700 Series: inside the cabinet to the left of the upper drawer.
- PRO Series: inside the cabinet left of the freezer drawer, or the upper freezer drawer on PRO4850 and 648PRO.
- Undercounter refrigerators: inside the cabinet in the upper left area.
- Wine storage: varies by model, on the compartment divider behind the kickplate, the ceiling inside the unit, or below the control panel.

Undercounter cabinets are their own family and their serial tags sit inside the cabinet in the upper left area, or on the left side wall on ice makers, and on the right on older ice maker units. Worth knowing before you empty the whole thing looking for it.

Sub-Zero publishes no prices for current or discontinued models, so we will not print one. A used 550 is worth whatever the local market pays, and that varies enormously with condition and with whether the sealed system has been touched. For current pricing on a new cabinet, a Sub-Zero dealer is the only authority and Sub-Zero directs buyers there rather than publishing figures. Anything you find quoted online for a specific model is somebody else’s estimate.

Side-by-side cabinets in the 6xx family put the serial tag inside the freezer door near the top hinge rather than the refrigerator side. Note also that dual refrigeration gives each compartment its own sealed system, so on a side-by-side one half can fail completely while the other holds perfectly.

Sub-Zero is explicit that parts from one model are not compatible with another, so a panel from a newer cabinet is not a substitute. Take the model and serial from the tag to the distributor.
How do I clean the condenser on a Sub-Zero model 695 refrigerator?
On Classic and PRO built-ins you turn the unit off at the control panel, hold the grille assembly at the centre of its bottom edge and rotate it upward, then vacuum the coil with a soft bristle brush attachment. Use low-setting compressed air for debris behind the screens. Chemical cleaners and degreasers are not recommended. Restore power and allow up to 24 hours.
What does Sub-Zero model identification involve?
Reading the serial tag and giving us the model and serial number when you book. That is the whole thing, and it matters because Sub-Zero parts are not interchangeable between models. Getting it right is the difference between the correct part arriving on the first visit and a second appointment a week later.
Do Sub-Zero refrigerators have water dispensers?
Some models do and many do not, and it is decided by the model rather than the series. In the current Classic range the dispenser models carry a D in the designation, as in CL4250SD and CL4850SD, and there are internal dispenser variants such as the BI-36UFDID in the legacy Classic range. Your serial tag tells you which cabinet you have.
